Josiah is One in Minion!

Saturday we celebrated Josiah's fifth birthday with a minion party. He enjoyed having family and friends come over to have fun with him. He got spoiled with presents and I got spoiled by remembering how much people love my kids. Enjoy the pictures! :)

Project "I John 4:11"

Michael is doing a project with the kids this year. Each month he is going to have the kids make something for someone that we don't know or do not know very well. The goal is to teach the kids that in order for people to know that God loves them we have to show them love.

I am sure it will teach them other lessons along the way but showing people we care is the main focus. Josiah got to choose who was placed on "The List" he wanted to show love to and for January he choose the Fire Station.
When asked what he wanted to make the firemen he explained how he wanted to make them special cups. So Michael and the kids got busy one afternoon and decorated some cups in preparation for their visit to the Station.
We added in some sports drinks and TA-DA! The cups were covered in fireman stickers and labels that say thank you or we love you.

Tuesday, Michael took Josiah to the Fire Station and they had a blast. Of course they also let the little man explore the truck too! :)

Josiah had nothing but good things to say about his trip to the station. My favorite was "I'm not so shy of the Fireman anymore; They're nice." So, learning to show people love and getting over his fear of firemen. Productive day to be sure. :)

Happy Birthday, Josiah!

Five years ago on January 14, 2009 at 5:14pm a sweet 7 lb 14 oz baby boy {finally} entered the world.
I can't believe its been five years and then I can't believe its only been five years. He has grown and changed so much. Looking back at these baby pictures makes me think "Was he really this tiny?"
Josiah loves to play with Lego's, swords, and trucks. He loves it when he gets to do craft projects. The boy loves to be read to and highly anticipates story time at the library every week.
He looks forward to going to Church at every service and has several older ladies who spoil him rotten. He has really become social (for the most part) in the last year. When he starts talking you might as well pull up a chair and get comfy. You won't be going anywhere for a while.
His favorite restaurant is Sonny's and McDonald's is a close second. His love language is definitely food. It really doesn't matter what you give him but he will love you forever and never forget the time you gave him an orange or graham crackers. He also never forgets that if he ever wants Corn Nuggets or Doughnuts all he has to do is ask Grandaddy. :)

I'm not kidding about never forgetting! Josiah has a crazy good memory! If I need to remember something, I tell him to remind me. haha He can remember things that happened two or three years ago. I'm good if I remember what happened five minutes ago.

He is growing so fast and learning so much, but he will always be our Squirmy Worm!

Happy 5th Birthday, Josiah Robert!

O is for Octopus

This week brought some new things for Josiah to learn. We started with two vowel words! He is doing very well with figuring out the words. Sometimes he will read a new word and then try to make a sentence using the word. He comes up with some crazy sentences.
We are plucking away at learning our addition families. We are up to the five family, already. He enjoyed answering the addition problems and drawing apples on his tree when he answered properly. Friday we started "2+__ = 3" type problems. He struggled with that but I think within the next few weeks he will catch on to it.
We did another "flying" craft project before we had to turn in our books at the library.
We made a parachute which Josiah had fun with for about an hour until it got demolished. :)
Josiah has really wanted to draw this week. Its kinda cute with what he comes up with. In the mail this week was a birthday card from his Grandparents in Fiji. This little "Super Josiah" was attached.
I thought it was funny to find Josiah's rendition of it on the white board. :)
He also had to draw on one of his papers this week. He told me because Jill is a girl he made her hair longer. haha He was finished with that picture and was going to move to the next when he decided Jill needed a lot more arms because she really likes gum.
Next week we are taking a mini field trip after we finish up at the library. Josiah is excited and keeps asking how many days until we go. :) He is also excited about his birthday party next week. (I might be too.)

We are also drawing close to the 100th day of home school! I'm trying to figure out if we are going to do anything different for that day. With it being so close to his birthday I haven't been able to give it much thought. I guess we will just see what happens.

Week 19: Complete!

N is for Nest

Well, School has still been going on the last few weeks despite the holiday season. We've not been "strict" about it but Josiah just does better with structure (He is his mother's child). So we've done "light" schooling two days a week.

Here is my fireman reading his book. :)
Michael made some homemade ornaments (obviously a few weeks ago) with the kids during Bible time. It was made mostly of cinnamon so it smelled pretty yummy.

During school if Joanna is being good than I allow her to roam the house. More often than not she ends up here looking through all their books.

This week we are reading about planes. Josiah normally picks a topic and then I try to find several books at the library to read throughout the week with the kids. I found a nifty book with several crafts that "fly". Since it was a windy day we "TRIED" to make a homemade kite.
Yea, I was freezing so we didn't stay outside long enough to teach Josiah how to fly a kite. haha I held it up in the wind until it caught and then Josiah just went nuts running around the yard dragging it on the ground.
They had fun and that is all that really matters. :)

Week 18 is complete! Next week we are back to normal. I'm really looking forward to it. :)

She's a Big Girl Now

Big changes have started to take place for our rapidly growing Lady J. This week she has said goodbye to her mobil and her crib. She has really been such a big girl about it all too.
Here she is getting ready for her first nap in her big girl bed.
 She did FABULOUS!
Josiah likes being able to say goodnight to her while she is in bed. :)
I couldn't resist grabbing a picture of her this morning while she was still asleep.
She is growing up so quickly. It is sad to see some of the baby things go but the big girl stuff is exciting too. :)
