VBS "Fun" Night

Saturday night, Dixie Highway Baptist Church had a fun night for all the kids who came to their vbs this past week. Michael did balloons and I did a little face painting... until the rain chased everyone inside.
Michael then kinda made it a bit of a 'show' for the kids which was totally off the cuff. I think he enjoyed being challenged like that.

My sister's girls stayed with their 'Nona D' this past week so they could go to vbs. Becky came up to pick them up to take them home so she had Aunt duty with Josiah while I painted faces.
I mean who wouldn't want to keep snot boy? :)

Josiah enjoyed seeing Bro. Chad! He got two lollipops, 3 pieces of watermelon, a hot dog, cheese doodles, and COKE! Oh, and popcorn. The way to my son's heart is definitely through food.

Josiah and Daddy had to try out the slide before we left. Josiah really does have a wonderful daddy!

Tomorrow starts our Jr. Camp! We are excited and looking forward to seeing what the Lord will do this week at Camp Glory!

Good Advice

As I was going through my blogs last night one caught my eye from The Happy Housewife. It was a little bit of a long post so I just skimmed over the post and came across a gem of wisdom. The article was about how a homeschooling mom deals with negative reactions from people who thought she was crazy for choosing to homeschool.

Here is the portion that really caught my eye.

Morals of the story:
  • Show, don’t tell.  We let our families and friends interact with our kids rather than try and prove they were doing well.
  • Listen, don’t argue.  We heard the complaints, but didn’t try to counter them with arguments of our own.
  • Don’t criticize back.  We didn’t tear down anyone else’s educational choices, just went on with our own.
  • Wait.  Let critics see results over time.
  • Answer questions about homeschooling without trying to ‘convert’ anyone.
To me this is just great advice for LIFE! I have had so many Bible verses running through my head since reading this and just wanted to share in case it might be of some encouragement to someone else.

There will always be someone who doesn't agree with the choices you make. I know I've not always responded well when someone criticized me for a choice I've made but this is an area that I want to work on. I am responsible to God for my actions/reactions even when I feel provoked.

And while I'm telling on myself, I have come to the conclusion that even when someone asks my opinion I need to say "Let me get back with you on that". I've really felt like I've stuck my foot in my mouth just by being too hasty and not really thinking about my words before I say whatever is on my mind.

It might be a good idea for me to sing "Oh, be careful little mouth what you say" about ten times through as well. :)

A Little Bit of Life and A House Update

When I was a teenager my family went to a restaurant and I ordered Blueberry Pork Chops. They were so yummy and I remember it after all this time. So I decided I'd try to make my own and this is how it looked.
It turned out well, but I did make a few notes of how to do it differently for next time. We also had 2x baked potatoes that had a bit of a kick to them (D'lish!) and some green beans that was supposed to be a salad. Am I the only one who has ever forgotten what they planned to go with a meal and then had to find something else to fix only to remember what it was you were going to fix AFTER you already opened that can of green beans?

Josiah pulled his train table all the way from inside his bedroom out into the living room just to get Daddy to play with him.
I love my guys!

So to update everyone on the house we are (LORD WILLING) going to be buying...

Some of you know that during the home inspection it was discovered that the a/c unit was no longer working. A few days later our mortgage company contacted us and said that they could not give us the loan until the a/c was in working order. We had someone go out and take a look at it to see what was wrong with it/ how much $ it would cost and all that. After we got that info our realtor then tried to contact the listing agent to see what could be done.

To make a long story short, the listing agent FINALLY got back with us all today after our mortgage lady (we had everyone calling her trying to get her to do her job) got in contact with them... again. They are sending out a repair man and he is supposed to have everything fixed by Friday. Then once its fixed we have to get the appraisal finished and a few other things. Our closing date is Wednesday of NEXT week. So, we have to have a lot of things done in a very small amount of time since we can not move forward with anything until the a/c is taken care of.

Our awesome mortgage lady is asking the listing agent to extend our closing date to Friday since this delay is not our fault. So we'll see what happens next week. We really would appreciate it if you all would join us in praying that things would get fixed quicker than expected and that there would be no delays with all this last minute paper work.

Tuesday Night
The 2 & 3 yr olds were watching the puppet show. The puppets were praying and it made my heart smile to see Josiah fold his hands and squint like he was closing his eyes.
KC was handing water balloon to the 2's & 3's to throw at the teenage guys. Josiah got hit with water shrapnel and cried for the next 10 minutes. :) He HATES getting wet!

Michael showing the kids the 'leggings' of the giant balloon he is making to give away friday night.

Wednesday Night

The kids who bring visitors and say their memory verses get their names put into a bucket and the winner will get to take this gigantic balloon home.

Publix Shopping Trip

Spent: $23.59  Saved: $53.12 or 69%
I did a small and very quick trip to the store today. I used a rain check from a previous week for the mac & cheese. I stocked up on ice cream (my hubby loves me), the 2 pepsi throwback's were free and the 2 cherry pepsi's are for Michael during camp (Which I made him promise not to touch them until those weeks. I even marked one Jr. Camp and the other Teen Camp :D). Josiah will have his 3 cent watermelon devoured in a matter of days and I can't wait to try the new zesty sour cream!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day with their families!
